As far as contemporary books on physics for the non-technical reader go, this is one of the better ones. Brian Greene does a good job of coming up with conceptual illustrations and metaphors to explain ideas that are based on complicated mathematics. Though one may perhaps debate string theory's merits as an adequate explanation of the world we live in, one cannot doubt Brian Greene's enthusiasm for the subject or his ability to convey its insights to the casual reader.
